Burn: Burn Out – Talk 2

God’s promises never fail.

Big Message: Stop struggling.

Genesis 32:24-26

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till
daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower
him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip
was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man
said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”

But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless
me.”

Jacob was wrestling with God.

It was a snapshot of Jacob’s entire life.
He was always wrestling with God.

Jacob’s name means: heal grabber; deceiver

Genesis 25:29-34

Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the
field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob,
“Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!”
(Therefore his name was called Edom. Jacob said,
“Sell me your birthright now.” Esau said, “I am about
to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said,
“Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his
birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and
lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his
way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Jacob also stole blessing (Read Genesis 27).

2nd root cause of burn out:
– Burn out happens when you try to control what
you cannot control.

The reason why Jacob was grabbing, because
he was trying to control.

Control is unwanted pressure.
Let it go.

Let go of that pressure.

When you give up pressure, you gain peace.
You know that God is doing the rest.

God is telling you, stop fighting with me.

Speaker: Bro Arun Gogna

The greatest illusion in the universe is control.
That we are in control.

You can control you. You can control your action.
By the grace of the Holy Spirit.

You cannot control others. You can inspire,
you can influence, but you cannot impose.

Kahit anung galing mo, kelangan mong mag let go.

Parents want to control their kids.

Do the best that you can, and surrender to God.

God is in control.

Surrender to God.

Second Stage 20s to 40s

Expand what you already have.

Prayer of Jabez

1 Cronicles 4:10

“Oh, that you would bless me
and enlarge my territory!…

Enlarge your borders.

Big Message: God fights your battles.

David as a fighter

David led battles with his men

Before, he was a fighter, then a leader.

He need to become a leader.

For you to keep expanding,
keep fighting bigger battles.

God calls you to be a kingdom builder.

The Lord was with him.

1 Samuel 18:14

In everything he did he had great success,
because the Lord was with him.

Acts 2:25

David said about him:

“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.

When David saw Goliath, he saw a greater opportunity
Goliath was too big to miss.

God fights for you.

Following Jesus is a daily decision

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

3 A’s to Expand

1. Automate your upgrade

Expand, Grow the capacity to love the way God loves
To show mercy the way God shows mercy
Expand your character

2. Acclimate to crisis
(meaning of Acclimate: respond physiologically or behaviorally
to a change in an environmental factor under
controlled conditions. – from Google
)

Your most difficult battles are the people closest to you.
Get used to trouble if you want to grow
Trust God so that you won’t go insane
Growth came from solving problems

3. Allocate your resources

King Saul wants to kill David.

1 Samuel 24:8-13

Then David went out of the cave and called out to Saul,
“My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him,
David bowed down and prostrated himself
with his face to the ground.
He said to Saul, “Why do you listen when men say,
‘David is bent on harming you’?
This day you have seen with your own eyes
how the Lord delivered you into my hands in the cave.
Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you;
I said, ‘I will not lay my hand on my lord,
because he is the Lord’s anointed.’
See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand!
I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you.
See that there is nothing in my hand to indicate
that I am guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion.
I have not wronged you,
but you are hunting me down to take my life.
May the Lord judge between you and me.
And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me,
but my hand will not touch you.
As the old saying goes,
‘From evildoers come evil deeds,’
so my hand will not touch you.

1 Samuel 31:3-6

The fighting grew fierce around Saul,
and when the archers overtook him,
they wounded him critically.

Saul said to his armor-bearer,
“Draw your sword and run me through,
or these uncircumcised fellows will come
and run me through and abuse me.”

But his armor-bearer was terrified
and would not do it;
so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead,
he too fell on his sword and died with him.
So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer
and all his men died together that same day.

90% of the battle in your life, you should not fight,
they are God’s battle.

Protect yourself from abuse, but don’t take vengence.

Don’t waste your time and energy with battles that
are not yours.

My Pride, selfishness, lust, greed — these are the enemies

God is gonna be there. He’s gonna fight the battle for you.

Flex you faith by praising the Lord.
When fear bullies you, flex your faith.
If God is with me, then I will not be afraid
God will make a way

Big message: God will turn you bad situation
into your best provision

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 2:46-47

Every day they continued to meet together in
the temple courts. They broke bread in their
homes and ate together with glad and sincere
hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor
of all the people. And the Lord added to
their number daily those who were being
saved.

Peace amidst problems -> happiness

Trust in his long term plans

If God is working on it,
it’s worth the wait.

Speaker: Sis Rissa Kawpeng

Acts 5:42

Day after day, in the temple courts and from
house to house, they never stopped teaching
and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is
the Messiah.

Matthew 25:40

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you,
whatever you did for one of the least of
these brothers and sisters of mine, you did
for me.’

Evangelist + social worker

Acts 6:8

Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and
power, performed great wonders and signs
among the people.

Acts 6:13

They produced false witnesses, who
testified, “This fellow never stops speaking
against this holy place and against the law.

Lessons learned from the story of Stephen:

Lesson 1:
When you don’t like certain people, ask God
to reveal your insecurities.
What’s about this person that’s pointing
back to me?

Lesson 2:
Before pointing someone error, remind that
you are not God
We don’t know everything

Lesson 3:
No matter how good you are, some people wont
like you

Acts 7:54

When the members of the Sanhedrin heard
this, they were furious and gnashed their
teeth at him.

Acts 7:57-60

At this they covered their ears and, yelling
at the top of their voices, they all rushed
at him, dragged him out of the city and
began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses
laid their coats at the feet of a young man
named Saul.

While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed,
“Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he
fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do
not hold this sin against them.” When he had
said this, he fell asleep.

Because of persecution, Christianity spread
more.

Breaking Bad: Inner Renewal – Talk 2

Homily of Fr. Francis Payo

From a life of sin to a life of grace.
Jesus makes all things new.

Ang tunay na pagbabago ay biyaya ng
Panginoon.

Encounter in Jesus – we can not remain the
same. We cannot remain in the dark. A renewed self.

Speaker: Bro Audee Villaraza

Change is an inside job.

Big Message: God is changing you.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

The devil will flee.

Our tendency is to run away

from the bad habit.

But this is already the step 2

What is step 1?

Submit yourselves to God

What does it mean to submit to God?
Learn how to submit to the good.
Surrender

Jesus did not use force,
but he use friendship.

Submit it to the one who defeated the
battle. His name is Jesus.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

John 18:16-18
but Peter had to wait outside at the door.
The other disciple, who was known to the
high priest, came back, spoke to the servant
girl on duty there and brought Peter in.
“You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too,
are you?” she asked Peter.
He replied, “I am not.”
It was cold, and the servants and officials
stood around a fire they had made to keep
warm. Peter also was standing with them,
warming himself.

John 18:25-27
Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing
there warming himself. So they asked him,
“You aren’t one of his disciples too, are
you?”
He denied it, saying, “I am not.”
One of the high priest’s servants, a
relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut
off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with
him in the garden?” Again Peter denied it,
and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

Matthew 26:74
Then he began to call down curses, and he
swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”
Immediately a rooster crowed.

Steps on how to Change

1. Get loved
– Only love can change someone
Jesus loved Peter, that’s why he changed

John 21:3
“I’m going out to fish,”

– Peter thinks that his call was over and would just go back to his fishing.

Jesus was re-enacting Peter’s call
Jesus was also re-enacting Peter’s fall
My mercy is bigger than your mess.

Response to God’s love

John 21:12
Jesus said to them, “Come and have
breakfast.”

– Jesus is saying here that we’re family

Why does love change a person?
– The anatomy of an addiction
– Any addiction is an anesthesia
to numb our painful hunger for love.
– Your greatest need is to be loved.
– Your bad habits are all pain killers.

The only one who can give you real love is
this person named Jesus.

2. Get real
– The only way to receive love is humility
– Get out of your pride

John 21:9
When they landed, they saw a fire of burning
coals there with fish on it, and some bread.

-When we fall into sin, there is denial
-justifying

-God meets you where you are.
-In the middle of your mess, in the middle
of your shame, in the middle of your storm.
-He is coming to you.
-He does not expect perfect love from you.

-He knows your love is imperfect.

Big Message: God is appointing you.

Prophet Nehemiah
One of the Jewish exiles
who was working for king of Persia

Nehemiah 1:1-4

In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year,
while I was in the citadel of Susa,
Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men,
and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant
that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.

They said to me, “Those who survived the exile
and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace.
The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.

– Nehemiah was moved into action

God will use you if He wants to use you regardless where you are.

You are where you are right now
not by accident but by divine appointment.

There are no accidents
God will use you where He has planted you.

Nehemiah could have said no to God, but he said yes.
He could have said no to more stress by rebuilding the temple.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

God is not appointing someone else. He is appointing you.

To change our country, is to change hearts.

Selflessness does not happen. It gets an act of God.

Selfishness is built on fear.

– We want what others have even if it is not good for us.

– I want what you have. But if I cant have it,
you too cannot have what you have.

– We don’t focus on what we have. We focus on what others have.

Crab mentality is not a Filipino condition,
it’s a human condition.

Anything foolish is built on selfishness.

Security tied by performance.

Antidote to envy, selfishness :
You pray, Lord bless them more.

God keeps on pushing more love in my life.
Until one day, fear disappears.
I wanted what God wants for me.

Security no longer tied up to ministry.
Security tied up to the Trinity.
When fear is gone, that’s when you become selfless.

To build a nation, you build a church.

Fear is gone, love takes over to your heart.

10 God appointments of Light of Jesus

  1. To reach the unchurched
  2. Build relationships
  3. Give teachings, relevant, engaging, practical
  4. Army of bi-locational feast members
  5. Disciple young people
  6. Raise up young preachers and leaders
  7. Create vibrant music
  8. Hold life giving live event
  9. Share Jesus to media
  10. Serve the poor

Looking For Mr. and Ms. Right: Disordered Priorities – Talk 2

Homily from Fr. Balatbat

Do not disregard your emptiness.
Do not disregard your nothingness.
In your empty boat, Jesus is present.
We are created out of nothing.
Grace abounds more on your weakness.
Do not be consumed by the fear of your
emptiness.

Put out into the deep water.
Lord at your command I will lower the nets.

Speaker: Bro Audie Villaraza

You’re still blessed no matter what you are going through today.

Big Message: Your blessing is coming.

Genesis 12:1
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country,
your people and your father’s household
to the land I will show you.

When God calls you to a mission, He will bless you.

God will equip you of what you need.

When God calls you, it is because He wants to bless you.

God’s calling will always come with a blessing.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Genesis 16:1
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children.
But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; so she said to Abram,
“The Lord has kept me from having children.
Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.”

The blessing of God is not yet coming.
I will take matters into my own hand.

3 Mistakes That We Make When Blessing of God Is Not Coming:

1st Mistake: Often our dreams isn’t wrong, just our deadline.
We underestimate the timeframe
We’re in a hurry, but God is not in a rush.

The real miracle is who you become while waiting for the miracle.
Do not rush
Do not settle
Stick to your values.
It is better to be single than to be married to the wrong person.

2nd Mistake: We want God’s promise but not the process

We have a problem with waiting
We don’t like waiting
We create problem through our pride and impatience

4 Things To Do While You Wait

1. Wish
Write a wishlist.
Write a criteria of what you want
Character – negotiable and non negotiable

Don’t waste your time and tears with recreational relationships.

2. Work on yourself
Work on your mindset
Work on your dreams
Work on your spiritual life.
Be the right partner

You don’t attract who you want, you attract who you are.

God isn’t finished with you yet.

While you are waiting, God is working.

3. Walk
Get out of your circle.
You do something else, until you stumble upon.
Do things you’ve never done before

4. Worship
Your waiting has the higher purpose.
Your greatest need is not a romantic relationship.
Your greatest need is a relationship with God.

3rd Mistake: You prioritize the blessing over the blesser.

Not everyone are called for marriage.
There are people who are not made for marriage.

You need to prioritize God.

Your greatest goal is to love God.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.

Your blessing will come.
That blessing could be a husband or wife.
That blessing could be a happier single life.

I believe that my season will come.

I have a happier life because the Blesser is in our house.
If you seek the Blesser, the blessing will come.

The more grateful you are the more joy will there be in your life.

Speaker: Bro Toni Valenzuela

God is setting me free.
God is setting you free.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

The ultimate measure of life is spiritual growth

The key of unlocking that growth is to let go of attachments

Attachment is something in your life that gives you a fragile peace

We go through tests

God wants you to let go
We hold on to pride
We hold on to bad habits
We hold on to addiction

2 Ways of Letting Go:

1. We let go by choice
2. We let go by circumstance – no choice

God has other plans for us.

What Isaac is God is asking you to give up?

Letting Go By Circumstance:

1. When we lose a property

Everytime you lose materially God is calling you to grow spiritually

2. When you lose persons

God invites you to let go. I will replace that fragile peace to permanent peace

3. When you lose position

Once upon a time you had a position and you were removed from it

what are you hanging on to dearly that God is asking you to let go?

Could be a habit
Could it be unforgiveness

Give it to God. Give it to Jesus who is your true peace

You cannot let go on your own.
You need Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is already in you.

There is power in the name of Jesus
To break every chain

This talk series is an analogy of the bible story of Abraham who willingly sacrifices his son Isaac to God. Read the bible verse below.

Genesis 22:1-13 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy[a] will go over there and worship and come again to you.” And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.

When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.
