Speaker: Bro Audie Villaraza

Many times we obey our fear first.
What if I fail?
What if…

Faith comes first, not fear.
Obey God first.

Make your faith so real, that your fear will disappear.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

I need courage.
If fear becomes first, you will not enjoy what God
wants to give you this year.

3 Strategies How To Have Courage

  1. Take the first step right away.
Make a plan. The moment you finish the plan,
before you sleep, make the first step.
    Law of momentum.
  2. Focus on the Why, not the How.
We are stuck with the how.
Something good will happen, because God is good.
  3. You are the miracle that you have been praying for.
    You are a walking miracle.
God has already provided everything that you need.
What you need to do is act.
You need more courage. Act Now.
The miracle is you. He created you in His image and likeness.
    Keep on following God.

Speaker: Chef Jessie Sincioco

This document is not 100% accurate.
I just write this as I remembered.

Chef Jessie, a proud Catholic, was the chef of Pop Francis when he visited in Manila last January 2014.  She also was the chef of the delegates of the recent ASEAN Summit last November 2017.  But she preferred to be called the chef of Pope Francis.  She is very proud to say that Pope Francis never experienced stomach ache during his stay here in Manila.  Her dream when she was still young was to work on a prestigious bank.  She studied financial course in college.  But when she graduated, God led her to the kitchen.  She now has a restaurant Top of The City in Citibank Makati.  She also mentioned that she is still serving Pope Francis meal in her restaurant.  Portion of the earnings for this meal is donated to charity.

This desert was prepared for diabetic persons.
3 Bananas
3 Eggs
3 tbs Cocoa

1. Blend the 3 ingredients
2. Place it in a small round for 3
3. Place it in an oven which was preheated 350 degrees
and cook it for 10 minutes
End Result: Looks like a banana cup cake

1 bowl Brown Rice
1 bowl Red Rice
Some vegetables (non-leaves) found in your refrigerator
roasted chicken (breast part)
Olive oil (regular)

1. Preheat in a pan olive oil
2. Place sliced garlic in the pan and stir
3. Place sliced onion in the pan and stir
4. Place sliced vegetable and chicken in the pan and stir
5. Place brown and red rice and stir
6. Add Salt and Pepper to season
7. Place it in a bowl and place bowl in the plate facing down
8. Add some broccoli and other vegetables on the side (plating)
End Result is a beautiful plated main dish.

Olive oil (virgin)
Apple cider vinegar

1. Blanch Pako and Alugbati
2. Place it in a bowl
3. Mix Olive oil and Apple Cider vinegar
4. Mix the mixture to the alugbati and pako
5. Add sliced tomato
6. Add some nuts
Result is a nice healthy salad

For sanitation purposes,

Have a separate chopping boards (color coded)
1 for meat
2 for fish
3 for vegetables
4 for fruits
5 for bread

Have a separate knives (color coded – same color for each of the five chopping boards)

Wash your hands with water and soap every time you hold something in your hand

Angels and Demons: Temptation – Talk 1

Posted on

Speaker: Bro Alvin Barcelona

Spiritual warfare happens everyday
The devil is a defeated enemy

We protect ourselves from sin

How do we fight temptation?
See yourself as God sees you and temptation will never dare go near you

Genesis 1:27
So God created mankind in His own image

There is holiness in you

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Who you think you are is who you will become

1 John 3:1
See what great love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!
The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Where will you dwell in

Acknowledge that you are sinner
But also remember that you are created in the image of God

Speaker: Bro Audie Villaraza

Big message: You’re better than you think you are.

Temptations don’t cause sin.
A weak spiritual immune system causes you to sin.
A spiritual immune system is all about a loving relationship With yourself, with others and God.

To make a stronger spiritual immune system, you need nourishing love.

The battle is not on the outside, the battle is within

Self rejection – what opens the gates so that temptation comes in

Behind every sin is a cry for love
Sin is a fake version of love
Heal you relationship with yourself

Replace self rejection with self acceptance

You are better than you think you are
Your behavior flows from your belief.
You belief changes your behavior
For God you are special

We are all sinners
You are a child of God
Jesus the Son of God giving His life for you

You are the reason why He died
He is the reason why we continue to live

TABOO: How To Talk About the Stuff We Don’t Want To Talk About – Ancestors -Talk 1

Isaiah 43:18-19
Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

Stop looking back
We love clinging to the past
The old means familiar the new means unfamiliar

Acts 7:51
You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised.
You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Big Message: God is staring a new thing.

Break that cycle
Family cycle
Nature or nurture?
What is more powerful?
Nature -> genetic
Nurture -> How you were raised

Your association affects your actions

Proverbs 13:20
Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm.

1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

1 Kings 11:3-4
He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.
As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted
to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

Is sin inherited?
Sin-tendency is more about nurture than nature.
God’s greatest gift to us, next to Jesus is our free will.
We have the ability to decide.

Lamentations 5:7
Our ancestors sinned and are no more,
and we bear their punishment.
Exodus 20:5-6
You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,
punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

–> It’s the culture of sin that is passed on
We set a bad example
Proximity is power
You influence people closest to you
You are a role model

Spiritual level
We’re interconnected
We affect each other
Just like a ripple effect

1 Corinthians 12:12-14
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—
and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

Listen to God’s voice thru different channels

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing to the division of soul and spirit,
of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts
and intentions of the heart.

What must you be when you hear God’s word?
You must be alive. Don’t be dead and passive

Luke 2:46-47, 49
After three days they found him in the temple,
sitting among the teachers, listening to them
and asking them questions; and all who heard him
were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
And he said to them, “How is it that you sought me?
Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?

You are the temple of the Holy Spirit
You are the Church

You can’t give what you don’t have

Hotspot – is the ability to share internet connection with others
But you need to have an internet connection yourself
in order that you as a hotspot will work

You cannot give what you don’t have

Strengthen your God-Connection

Look for people who could be your spiritual wi-fi

But be careful — there might be people who are not
really connected to God.
You thought they are connected to God,
but they don’t have love

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Big Message: Listen to God’s Voice

When you are small, you have a small world.
But as you grow older, your world gets bigger.

God is running after you because He wants to speak
to you, but you are too busy on other “important” things, or people.

Question: Should I read the bible daily?
Daily bible reading is 1000% recommended but not required
to please God or grow spiritually.

People in the bible didn’t read their bible everyday

It was only when the printing press was invented by Johannes Guttenberg
that the bible became easily accessible and read.

People who were not reading the bible were still connected to God
in some other ways.

Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth,
but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful
to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way
prosperous and then you shall have good success.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD; and you shall love the LORD
your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

People in the bible prayed the bible with their lips.
They would pray it night and day.

Religious people have the tendency to turn recommendations into rules

“If you love God, you should pray the Rosary everyday.”
Does this mean that if you don’t pray the Rosary, you don’t love God?

There is only 1 requirement — LOVE.

What works for me may not work for you.

There are several channels where God speaks:

1. Conscience

Romans 1:19
For what can be known about God is plain to them,
because God has shown it to them.

Jeremiah 31:33
But this is the covenant which I will make with the
house of Israel after those days, says the LORD:
I will put my law within them, and I will write
it upon their hearts; and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.

Your conscience has to be formed by the teachings of the Church
Private revelation cannot conflict with scriptures and Church teachings

2. Creation
It’s so much beautiful to pray in nature — in God’s creation

Romans 1:20
Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature,
namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived
in the things that have been made.  So they are without excuse.

Mark 1:35
And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose and went
out to a lonely place, and there he prayed.

3. Church
Thru the Majesterium of the Church
Sacred Scriptures and Sacred Traditions
God also speaks thru the Sacraments

2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the
traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth
or by letter.

God also speaks thru spiritual teachers

4. Circumstances
God speaks thru your reality
We just need to listen carefully

Socrates said — Unexamined life is not worth living

5.  Collective wisdom
Accumulated knowledge and human science

6.  Catholic Bible

God designed us to learn in different ways

There are many different learning styles

80% of book readers are female

Not all gain knowledge by reading.  Since there are different ways to learn

God is your Father and He wants to speak to you.  But you are too busy

God will speak to you thru many channels
We should pray the bible. Not just read it.

Our level of education is higher than our level of obedience

Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates
day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.

My Reflection:

Our God is an awesome God.  He would always probe us and seek for us and
find ways to communicate to us.  He loves us immensely and desires that we
always be in communion with Him.  He wants us to be with Him always
for all eternity.  He desires to bless us and give us gifts.  He wants to
help us and guide us.  He wants to protect us from any harm.
That is why He has given us this beautiful gift which
is the Catholic Church.  Where we could commune with Him in the
most intimate way — and that is thru the Eucharist.  Where we eat
His very own flesh and blood and be allowed to be united with us in that
very intimate and special way. He has given us His Word which is the Bible.
Another is thru the Sacraments where He Himself thru the priest
personally gets in touch with us in a deeper way.  There are so many ways
that God has given provisions to us in order for us to be near Him.
We just need to be open to His provisions and His love.

Have you not yet tried reading the bible?  I would recommend that you do so.  It is the most amazing love story that I have ever read. It is the greatest love story between God and you.  There are bible studies offered in Feast Bay Area.  You can go to the lobby and ask for the schedule.

As St. Augustine of Hippo once said:
To fall in love with God is the greatest romance;
to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.”

Let us seek Him always.  God never tires in seeking for us.
My prayer is that in our daily life, we receive the gift of being aware
of His presence and the grace to listen to Him. That His will be done.
His most wonderful and loving will for our lives.

True or False? Is Your Life Based on a Lie? – Identification – Talk 1

Posted on Updated on

Speaker: Bro George Gabriel

Your first identification is that you are a child of God.

Genesis 32:24-31
And Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him
until the breaking of the day.  When the man saw that he did not prevail
against Jacob, he touched the hollow of his thigh, and Jacob’s thigh
was put out of joint as he wrestled with him.
Then he said “Let me go, for the day is breaking.”  But Jacob said,
“I will not let you go, unless you bless me.”
And he said to him, “What is your name? And he said, “Jacob.”
Then he said to him, “Your name shall no more be called Jacob,
but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men,
and have prevailed.”
Then Jacob asked him, “Tell me, I pray, your name.”
But he said, “Why is it that you ask my name?”  And there
he blessed him. So Jacob called the name of the place
Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face,
and yet my life is preserved.”
The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel,
limping because of his thigh.

An authentic God-encounter changes your perceived identity.

In our life, we sometimes declare negative identities

We put on messed up identity from people who are
messed up themselves.

Jacob means grabber or thief

Hebrews 11:21
By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons
of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff.

You can’t worship God if you don’t have a limp.
In every worship is an encounter with God
You become what you worship.

An angel broke Jacob’s hip
He broke his pride

We lean on the wood of the cross
We acknowledge our weakness
Come before God with your limp

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

We don’t think that way
It is rare that a person thinks that way

You have filter in your brain
Even if there are loads of information and reality being
bombarded to you, you discard 99% of this reality and
retains the 1%.

Reality is like a big jigsaw puzzle.
Our mind can hold only one piece, or else we go insane

We are fixated on this one piece.
And we say that is reality
In that one piece, we think it is ugly

You define yourself by that one ugly piece.
You allow that one piece to define who you are.

Your life is based on a lie if it is defined only on that one piece.
Love is my religion.
“This statement made by Bro Bo, for me, is a very controversial
statement. Some of my friends made some bad comments regarding this.
I tried to reflect on this statement and tried to make sense out of it.

This is my very limited and humble opinion on that statement:

I believe that knowing is different from obeying what Jesus had taught us.
Even if you know all the doctrines and do all the rituals that the Church
prescribes, but you don’t obey the essence of it all — and that is
to love God with your all and the second is to love your neighbor, it is
worthless.  I believe that knowing the truth about our Catholic faith
is very important in our faith journey.  But once we know the truth,
we need to hold this truth with a humble heart, with a contrite heart,
knowing that we are sinners. Knowing that we cannot do all that is commanded
without God’s grace and His mercy.  Without God’s grace working in our lives,
we do it in vain.  In saying that Love is my religion
is saying that Catholicism’s truest essence is all about God’s love for all of us
and our response to that love.
It is a religion centered on God who is the source of love.”
Going back to my notes 🙂

Problem with some of us who are religious, we pray too much than we love people
We love doctrine than we love people
Bone marrow of faith is love.

Truth can only be held with a gentle hand of humility
If it is held with pride, truth will go away.

Be known with our love than your religion

You are the beloved of God but we look on ourselves as trash due to
what happened to you.

What you focus on flourishes.

1 Samuel 18:6-10
It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine,
that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing,
to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments.
The women sang as they played, and said,

“Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands.”

Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said,
“They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands.
Now what more can he have but the kingdom?”
Saul looked at David with suspicion from that day on.
Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God
came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house,
while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual;
and a spear was in Saul’s hand.

1 Samuel 24:12
May the Lord judge between you and me.
And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me,
but my hand will not touch you.

Who is the real Goliath in our life?
Maybe you are the Goliath to yourself

You are God’s wounded healer.

Speaker: Bro Alvin Barcelona

Emotional Pain
Most of our pains are self-inflicted
Many people are set up for hurts

Big Message: Set yourself up to be happy.

3 Types of Hurts

1. Serious Hurt

Hurt people hurt people.

Life is unfair, but God is good.
Run to God when you are hurt.
We don’t know why it happens but keep on running to God.

2. Small Hurts

We make these hurts big.
People are people.  They are not perfect.  They commit mistakes
There are some hurts that are blown up out of proportion

People hurt you.
But don’t worsen in.
Stop rewinding it n your mind.
Stop meditating on it, dwelling on it,
and being fixated on it.
Acknowledge it.  Accept it.
But stop making it your little god.  Move on.

3. Self Hurts

When do we hurt ourselves?

   a.  When we keep on repeating our mistakes
Winners make new mistakes
Losers makes the same mistake

People don’t get what they deserve.
They get what they think they deserve

If you see yourself as garbage,
you settle for garbage.

You are the most precious being in the eyes of God.
So treat yourself as one.

b.  When we replay our hurts
         Stop worshiping your hurt
Are you a hurt collector?
You replay hurt by looking for similar hurt
When someone hurts you, you think all will hurt you

Jesus wept when his friend Lazarus died.
But after that He raised him back to life.

Jesus agonized in the garden.
After that, he moved on.

You acknowledge hurts.  Then you recover.
Beyond that, it’s already self-inflicted.

Set yourself up to be happy

Happy despite the pain

Things happen.  There will be people who will commit mistakes
Let it go.

It’s OK to get angry.  You are human.  Just don’t prolong your anger.

Pain will come — Feel the pain — Let go

Let it go, let it flow, let God flow through you.

Think of how you felt or are feeling when you receive God’s love
Swim in God’s love

Think of people who made you happy
Think of God’s story in you
