Story of David and Goliath

1 Samuel 17:37

“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear
will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”

He was remembering what God has done to him.
David was throwing God’s track record into the giant.

List down God’s track record in your life.

Recall all your past victories and how God has blessed you.
Your problem may have a different name, but God is the same.

If God saved me then, I believe He will do it again.

Our brain can malfunction

1. Our brain is programmed by fear

Fear protects us. It keeps us safe.
Humans lived in danger world 10,000 years ago.
Today the world has changed. But our brain has not.

It still is programmed by fear.

There are no more angry lions,
but there are still angry bosses, there are still angry mothers.
There are still social rejections.

The primitive part of our brain will respond.
Our brain is focused on failures.
We remember the wrong things.

Human memory stores the most inaccurate data
It stores biased interpretation of data
We just remember the wrong things.

Your past is a mixture of success and failure.
But your brain will be focused on that failure.
Brain will have a video loop on the failure.

You have a choice what video to watch in your brain.

What do you need to do to overcome the fear and failure programming?

You can upgrade your brain.
Your brain has been malfunctioning lately.

Celebrate your wins
Because you are a champion.

Psalms 77:11
I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.

Instead of focusing on your failures.

Memory of success will be more powerful
Detailed memories are more powerful than vague memory.
Remember these successes and make it detailed.

2 Kinds Of Courage

1. Human Courage – comes from trusting yourself
You need to have a measure of trust
Self confidence is good
Measure of self confidence
But this is not enough
because there will be times in your life that you cannot do anything

2. Holy Courage – trust in God
David had God confidence

Everyone is facing their Goliaths

Your God celebrate who you are.
You are God’s masterpiece. And He is proud with His masterpiece.
When you celebrate who you are, you celebrate God.

Your greatest win is God Himself and your relationship with Him.

7 Parallels between Isaac and Jesus

1. Both were loved by their fathers and both were sacrificed by their father
2. Both were only sons
3. Isaac had a sibling – Ishmael
Jesus has siblings – we are His brothers and sisters
4. Both carry wood up to the mountain
5. Both were sacrificed on the same geographical location-the hills of Moriah
6. Both were tied up
7. Both were resurrected, though in a different way

For God so loved.
This is why we are here.

There is this illogical God who is madly in love with you.
You may lose everything, but you will never lose God’s love for you.
Receive this love today.

I am perfectly, totally, completely loved.

And today, because of your love for me, I chose to serve, and love and
follow you, all the days of my life, in Jesus name.

The key of unlocking that growth is to let go of attachments

Attachment is something in your life that gives you a fragile peace

We go through tests

God wants you to let go
We hold on to pride
We hold on to bad habits
We hold on to addiction

2 Ways of Letting Go:

1. We let go by choice
2. We let go by circumstance – no choice

God has other plans for us.

What Isaac is God is asking you to give up?

Letting Go By Circumstance:

1. When we lose a property

Everytime you lose materially God is calling you to grow spiritually

2. When you lose persons

God invites you to let go. I will replace that fragile peace to permanent peace

3. When you lose position

Once upon a time you had a position and you were removed from it

what are you hanging on to dearly that God is asking you to let go?

Could be a habit
Could it be unforgiveness

Give it to God. Give it to Jesus who is your true peace

You cannot let go on your own.
You need Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is already in you.

There is power in the name of Jesus
To break every chain

This talk series is an analogy of the bible story of Abraham who willingly sacrifices his son Isaac to God. Read the bible verse below.

Genesis 22:1-13 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy[a] will go over there and worship and come again to you.” And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.

When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.

3 Strategies How To Have Courage

  1. Take the first step right away.
    Make a plan. The moment you finish the plan,
    before you sleep, make the first step.
    Law of momentum.
  2. Focus on the Why, not the How.
    We are stuck with the how.
    Something good will happen, because God is good.
  3. You are the miracle that you have been praying for.
    You are a walking miracle.
    God has already provided everything that you need.
    What you need to do is act.
    You need more courage. Act Now.
    The miracle is you. He created you in His image and likeness.
    Keep on following God.
