Homily: Fr. Michael Laguardia

Prayer is a loving conversation with God.

In prayer,
-Be personal
-Be persistent in prayer
-Be persevering in prayer

Perseverance is a virtue

Ask and you will receive
Seek and you will find
Knock and the door will be opened to you

This is God’s promise

Speaker: Bro Didoy Lubaton

Big Message: Surrender

You don’t have to carry anymore

Mark 6:31

Come with me by yourselves
to a quiet place and get some rest.

Come with me just as you are.
You don’t have to pretend.
Sometimes we give in to the pressures of the world.
We live in a noisy world.

When you’re resting there is no striving.
God is enough. Let Him be your rest.

You cannot do everything.
You need rest.

Love yourself the way God loves you.

Rest time is recovery time.
It’s not a waste of time.
It takes a decision from you.
God will not force you.

Let God be God.

Rest in God today.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Burn out not because they are tired, but because
there is fear in their hearts.

Surrender to God all your fears.
Surrender, God will turn it around.

My Reflection

It has been months that I took days/months off from my work…
well, actually I resigned from work. But it seems like I have not really rested. I’m not at peace. And now, I believe what Bro Bo said —
“Burn-out not because they are tired, but because there is fear in
their hearts.”
— I think this is what’s causing me this unrest.
There is that fear. “What next? What will others think of me? I should act now.
Is this it? Is this the life that I want? Am I done now?” Those noises in my head.

Abba Father, help me to surrender my situation to You. Help me to constantly seek You, to constantly trust in Your wisdom. Thank You Lord for being here
with me. I am not worthy of your presence, yet you continue to be here.
I am clouded by insecurities, and frustrations for months now, but I know that You are with me. I surrender to You my Lord. Do with me as you will. Thank You Lord for Your love, for your provisions, for the gift of family and friends who patiently support me. My family is not perfect, I am not perfect, but You are perfect Lord. And when You are with us, who can be against us? I trust Lord, that everything is temporary, and in the end, by Your grace, everything will turn out to be amazing. Help me not to live in fear, but to trust in You Oh Lord. Lead me Lord. I love You Lord! Amen.

Depression has no logic.

1 Kings 19:7-9

The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched
him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much
for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by
that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he
reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 There he went into a
cave and spent the night.

The cause of burn out is that
We are not taking care of our bodies.

When you go to discouragement, walk.

1 Kings 19:10

He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God
Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn
down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the
sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to
kill me too.”

When you are going to depression,
you feel that you are all alone.

1 Kings 19:18

Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have
not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed
him.”

Prescription to combat depression or burn-out

1. Feel your feelings
2. Feed your frame
3. Find your friends
4. Follow your faith

Only perfect love comes from God.

1 Kings 19:11-12

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a]a still small voice.

3rd root cause for burn out
Being happy only for the extraordinary.

Gratitude, finding God in the ordinary.

Big Message: Meet God in your ordinary.

God’s promises never fail.

Big Message: Stop struggling.

Genesis 32:24-26

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till
daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower
him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip
was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man
said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”

But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless
me.”

Jacob was wrestling with God.

It was a snapshot of Jacob’s entire life.
He was always wrestling with God.

Jacob’s name means: heal grabber; deceiver

Genesis 25:29-34

Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the
field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob,
“Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!”
(Therefore his name was called Edom. Jacob said,
“Sell me your birthright now.” Esau said, “I am about
to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said,
“Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his
birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and
lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his
way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Jacob also stole blessing (Read Genesis 27).

2nd root cause of burn out:
– Burn out happens when you try to control what
you cannot control.

The reason why Jacob was grabbing, because
he was trying to control.

Control is unwanted pressure.
Let it go.

Let go of that pressure.

When you give up pressure, you gain peace.
You know that God is doing the rest.

God is telling you, stop fighting with me.

Speaker: Bro Arun Gogna

The greatest illusion in the universe is control.
That we are in control.

You can control you. You can control your action.
By the grace of the Holy Spirit.

You cannot control others. You can inspire,
you can influence, but you cannot impose.

Kahit anung galing mo, kelangan mong mag let go.

Parents want to control their kids.

Do the best that you can, and surrender to God.

God is in control.

Surrender to God.

Burnout is a physical sickness. It is also an emotional
sickness. It is also a spiritual sickness.

The No. 1 killer is too much stress.

What is burnout? To fade out, to lose the fire.
Something inside you has died.

Exodus 3:2

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of
fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush
was on fire it did not burn up.

Exodus 24:17

To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a
consuming fire on top of the mountain.

Luke 3:16

John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one
who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose
sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with
the Holy Spirit and fire.

Acts 2:3

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated
and came to rest on each of them.

2 things that the Fire can do:

1. Fire forms you
When you are exposed with the fire, Holy Spirit
changes you

2. Fire fuels you
Allow God’s firy love into our life.
It burns pride, jealousy, envy, selfishness

Allow God’s fiery love
to sustain in your life so you will finish the race.

Speaker: Bro Mike Vinas

Isaiah 49:16

See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.

God’s love for you is permanent and is unfailing

Big Message: You are God’s forever

Matthew 19:16

Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked,
“Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

Eternal life is living with God.
Eternal life starts now if you are living with God.

Matthew 19:17

“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied.
“There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life,
keep the commandments.”

Matthew 19:20

“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I
still lack?”

Matthew 19:21

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your
possessions and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Problem was not wealth, but the position of wealth in
his heart.

You are complete in Christ.

Our hearts were made for You, O Lord, and they are
restless until they rest in you.

-St. Augustine of Hippo

Psalm 42:1-2

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?

We need God.

Colossians 1:16

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and
on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers
or rulers or authorities; all things have been created
through him and for him.

You have a God-shaped hole in your soul that only God
can fill.

Ultimately, we need only God.

We expect from stuff what only God can provide.

Stages: Finding God Where You Are – Prepare For Your Exit – Talk 4

4th Stage: Age 60 and Up

Homily by Fr. Bob Mcconaghy

Cost of discipleship is detachment.
Leaving everything behind to follow Jesus.

Our God is a God of surprises.

Have you ever asked the Lord to surprise you?

Speaker: Bro Audee Villaraza

The rest of the year could be the best of the year.

If God did it before, I know he will do it some more.

Gratitude should not be silent.

Life is short

Don’t take life too seriously

Keep laughing some more

Big Message: The best is yet to come.

James 4:14

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.
What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little
while and then vanishes.

Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Teaches you how to detach

Life is a constant movement towards detachment

Detachment brings contentment

Life’s journey is about letting go

Life is temporary

There is nothing permanent in this world
The only permanent is Jesus.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

You are not just a physical body. You have a soul.
There is no end to spiritual growth.

You can grow more loving, more patient, more humble.

It’s important to start strong, but it’s more
important to finish strong.

2 Timothy 4:7

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I
have kept the faith.

4th stage is about letting go.

For Parents, there are 3 hats to wear:

1st Stage: Controlling hat
– You need to do this to protect your kids.

2nd stage: Coaching hat
– when your kids becomes teenagers
– Either rebel or not mature if you don’t change hats

3rd stage: Consulting hat
– If your sons and daughters are already married
– Do not speak unless you are hired to consult
– Don’t impose

Letting go is difficult

If you have family,
write a living will and last will

How to let go

1. Create a second act
Instead of focusing on your role, focus on your
mission.

2. Focus on your relationship with God
that you are loved, that’s who you are

2 Samuel 7:16-17

Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me;
your throne will be established forever.

Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire
revelation.

Yet even before David’s eyes, the promise is not
fulfilled.

We want our dream to be fulfilled how we want
it to be fulfilled.

God had other plans.

1000 years of David, Jesus was born.
And this Jesus and His Kingdom will last forever.

The promise that God has given to David, was fulfilled
in God’s time, and not on David time.

Some of your dreams will be fulfilled not in your
lifetime, but in heaven.

I am the beloved of God.

Homily by Fr. Michael Laguardia

Feast of Corpus Christi

We may be deceived by our senses

When you look to that piece of bread,
after the priest consecrate it,
it becomes the body and blood of Jesus.

It does not look like Jesus,
does not taste like Jesus,
it is Jesus.

Not an ordinary bread, but Jesus Himself.

The Holy Eucharist is not just something,
it is someone.

The heart of the Feast is the Eucharist.

We are responsible for our brothers and sisters.

Speaker: Bro Audee Villaraza

Celebrate your stage

Focus

Eliminate so you can concentrate

Subtracting than adding

Know what you can do and accept what you cannot do

Don’t let others tell you what you can and cannot do

God gives you the power to do all things through Christ
who strengthens you.

Gratitude is the greatest response to God’s goodness.

Problem: Life is not always exact.

Your life could be in different stages in all your areas.

David as a King.

2 Samuel 5:4

David was thirty years old when he became king,
and he reigned forty years.

This is ideally your harvest stage.

But most of the time you judge your story
to somebody else’s glory.

Keep planting whatever season you’re in.

2 Samuel 7:8-9

“Now then, tell my servant David,
‘This is what the Lord Almighty says:
I took you from the pasture,
from tending the flock,
and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.

I have been with you wherever you have gone,
and I have cut off all your enemies from before you.
Now I will make your name great,
like the names of the greatest men on earth.

There comes a point in your life where you need
to recognize who brought you to where you are right now.

Your pride will also developed

We might be discontented about what we have right now.
But God might be telling you
This is exactly what you need in your stage right now.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Big Message: God will turn it into good.

Genesis 50:20

You intended to harm me,
but God intended it for good
to accomplish what is now being done,
the saving of many lives.

Because of Joseph’s character.

Whatever your situation is right now, if you follow God,
He will turn it into good.

Our lives depends on our spiritual character.

What’s character? Who you are when no one is watching.

God turns your curse into blessing.

When does blessing become a curse?
Blessings are heavy. If your spiritual character is
not strong enough, you will be crushed by the weight
of your blessing.

Blessings comes with burdens.

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, forbearance,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.

The Holy Spirit bears the fruit.

If you are spiritually unprepared for the harvest,
it becomes a disaster. Because temptations comes.

Deuteronomy 17:17

He must not take many wives,
or his heart will be led astray.
He must not accumulate
large amounts of silver and gold.

When blessings increase, blindness increase.

2 Samuel 12:1-7

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.”

Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.

Temptations because of power

Greed
Pride
Entitlement (I deserve this)

4 ways to fight pride

1. Lead with a limp
All of us have a limp
Don’t hide your vulnerability

2. Protect with partners
You need accountability partners

3. Monitor your marriage
If you are married

4. Connect to who your really are
Connect to your creator
How’s your time with God?

If you have already fallen:

Psalms 51:1-2

Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude
of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.

Whatever failure done in your life,

If you allow God to form your spiritual
character, your curses will turn to blessings

Even if you have detoured, God is still there
and will bring you back to the right place.
