Homily Fr. Michael Laguardia

Let us be faithful.
Let us be fruitful.
These fruits are meant to be shared.

Speaker: Bro Audee Villaraza

God will use you where he has planted you.

We need to build our hearts

Find your security in God.

You attach your identity into your authority.

Power, wealth, money will disappear.
Marry your identity with Jesus only.

To change our nation, we must change our hearts.

Big message: You’re the one.

Deuteronomy 31:1-2
Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel:
“I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you.
The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’

Deuteronomy 31:7-8
Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel,
“Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people
into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them,
and you must divide it among them as their inheritance.
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;
he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

A real leader knows his limits.

A great leader knows when to step out so others can step up.

There is no success without successors.

You need selflessness.

Ezekiel 36:26
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;
I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

You need a heart transplant.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Leadership is not a solo race, it’s a relay race.

Many leaders do not know their own weaknesses.

When you have a selfish leaders, you see your successors as your enemies.

1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height,
for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at.
People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

In choosing a leader, look at his heart.
– Includes feelings, heart, mind, strength of the will and conscience

Character – is he selfless?
Capacity -can he lead?

God said to Samuel, keep looking.

Sometimes when we make a choice, we have this fear of missing out.
– Keep looking, you don’t jump into that decision

1 Samuel 16:12
So he sent for him and had him brought in.
He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.

Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”

Sometimes we don’t think that God will choose us.
Because we think we don’t have what it takes.

God is choosing you.
He says, you will operate in my power, you will operate in my grace

will you accept the baton of God?

Remove the selfishness in me. Help me to be selfless everyday

Nation Building: Be A Leader – Talk 2

Big Message: God is appointing you.

Prophet Nehemiah
One of the Jewish exiles
who was working for king of Persia

Nehemiah 1:1-4

In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year,
while I was in the citadel of Susa,
Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men,
and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant
that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.

They said to me, “Those who survived the exile
and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace.
The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.

– Nehemiah was moved into action

God will use you if He wants to use you regardless where you are.

You are where you are right now
not by accident but by divine appointment.

There are no accidents
God will use you where He has planted you.

Nehemiah could have said no to God, but he said yes.
He could have said no to more stress by rebuilding the temple.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

God is not appointing someone else. He is appointing you.

To change our country, is to change hearts.

Selflessness does not happen. It gets an act of God.

Selfishness is built on fear.

– We want what others have even if it is not good for us.

– I want what you have. But if I cant have it,
you too cannot have what you have.

– We don’t focus on what we have. We focus on what others have.

Crab mentality is not a Filipino condition,
it’s a human condition.

Anything foolish is built on selfishness.

Security tied by performance.

Antidote to envy, selfishness :
You pray, Lord bless them more.

God keeps on pushing more love in my life.
Until one day, fear disappears.
I wanted what God wants for me.

Security no longer tied up to ministry.
Security tied up to the Trinity.
When fear is gone, that’s when you become selfless.

To build a nation, you build a church.

Fear is gone, love takes over to your heart.

Homily of Fr. Alex Balatbat

Matupad ang nais ng Diyos sa iyong buhay.

Ang nais natin kalooban ng Diyos maganap sa atin.

Obeying His will.

Allow your suffering be transformed into a joyful sacrifice and allowing His will to be celebrated in your life.

Kapag hindi ka natutukso, matakot ka,
baka magkaibigan na kayu ng demonyo.
Baka sumasang-ayun na ang demonyo sa ginagawa mo.

First Sunday of Lent, introduce us to know the enemy — the devil.
Do not argue with the devil,
because the devil has no capacity to tell the truth.

The devil has no power over you without your consent.
With your consent, he will be powerful.

Jesus is very powerful. He knows the Father’s will.
Pilit inaalis ng kalaban.
The devil is around, waiting for another chance to tempt you.
Focus on Jesus.

In the desert of our lives, there is the devil.
But there is also Jesus, who is more powerful than the devil.

Speaker: Bro Audie Villaraza

The songs that we sing is a declaration.
No matter what we are going through, we declare, great are you Lord.

You are part of a nation.
We need to have leaders who are selfless.
The problem is we are not selfless.
We are selfish.

How can you change from selfish to selfless?
You can’t change people.
The only person you can change, is you.
Your biggest issue is you.
It has to start with you.

Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

We only reap harvest if we do not give up.

The best place to start is with yourself.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Big Message: God is in your family.

Values are taught in family.

1 Samuel 8:1-3 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders.
The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah,
and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not follow his ways.
They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.

1. You cant blame everything on the parents
2. You cant blame everything on the kids either

Today you see this happening.

Successful people sometimes are not successful in family life.
Parents are sometimes too busy with the bigger vineyard.
They don’t have time for the smaller one.

Fall of great nation happens because:
They marry to divorce.
They divorce to be married.

How does family life connect to the nation?

1. poverty
2. crime – predictor is the absence of father in the home
3. government spending

The real wealth of a nation are its strong families

God is in your family

Children need something that don’t change.
Rocks that will not change.

1. God – will never change. His faithfulness never changes.

Do you want to build this nation?
Introduce your children to Jesus.
Introduce your family to Jesus.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.
Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home
and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

4 things to teach your kids
Teach them to pray daily
Teach them to meditate on God’s word
Teach them how to live in the Body of Christ
-bring them to the feast
Bring them to serve God

How to teach them? By doing these things. Setting an example

Encourage your children to meet other children who loves Jesus.

2. You
You are that second rock. Your unconditional love.
You don’t threaten them with abandonment.
You can discipline.
Build your kids.

3. Home
The best way to love your kids is to love your spouse.

God is bigger than your mess.

Your kids will heal.
Take the healing journey yourself. Your healing overflows to your kids.
God will use their scars.

Your kids will believe what you tell them about their future.

This country will change
when you change the hearts of people and bring them towards God.

Build this country one child at a time.

Pre-Lenten Retreat: Come As You Are – Grand Feast

Homily by Fr. Bob Mcconaghy

Ash Wednesday is not a day that you
make promises. Ash Wednesday is to
realize that we need God’s grace.
A special help from God.

Advice this Lent:

Fasting on Thursdays
Not to make chismis.
Ask for the God’s grace.
Pope Francis calls chismis – terrorism
We drop a bomb on someone’s reputation
Taking delight on somebody else’s sin
so that I don’t look at my own.
It doesn’t feel like a sin.
But its a failure to love.

Fasting on Fridays
Not to make mental judgement
Seeing other people’s sin

Fasting on Saturdays
Think of your grudges
Someone who hurt you.
Simply say to the Lord, and mention name,
and say, I forgive this person.
Send a text, letter or note to this
person and reconcile

Fasting on Sundays
Don’t read the bad news like newspapers
Read the good news. Read entire Gospel of Mark in 1 sitting or in 5 sitting
for 40 minutes.

Fasting on Mondays
Say the rosary
For every bead, pray for one person by name.
First 10 relatives
Second 10 friends
Third 10 pray for the priests
Fourth 10 pray for your enemies

Fasting on Tuesday
Social Media – no posts, no selfies, etc.
Turn off and use this time to rest.
To be refreshed by God
Close your mind and open your heart
Go to adoration chapel

Fasting on Wednesdays
Give a sandwich to someone who needs it.

Speaker: Bro Didoy Lubaton

Big Message: Come As You Are

Mark 1:40-41
A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees,
“If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man.
“I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”

Lent is a purification.
40 days of purification.
God touching us and making us clean again.
We all are spiritual lepers.
We are all broken.
We have sinful hearts.
Come as you are. No pretensions.
Be desperate to God.
God knows you as you are.
He knows your struggles.

Speaker: Bro Audie Villaraza

Leviticus 13:46
All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled;
he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.

This Lenten, it’s time to go to Jesus.
You can come as you are.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

All things will work good for those who love God. Even in sickness.

Speaker: Bro Alvin Barcelona

Why does evil seems to be more powerful than good?
Come as you are. God accepts you as you are even if you do bad things.
Jesus will make you clean.
You need friends who will help you also to make you clean. To pray for you and to guide you to be closer to Jesus.

Speaker: Bro JC Libiran

Lent will bring us to Jesus.
The leper was in need of Jesus.

Speaker: Bro Adrian Panganiban

Start our day with God.
By praying by reading the word of God.

Speaker: Kuya Lep Sumera

When you sacrifice you don’t lose,
but you gain something.
Write down small blessings.
Attitude of gratitude

Speaker: Bro Alvin Barcelona

3 Groups
-Always holy camp
-Sometimes holy and sometimes unholy

Jesus touched the leper.
He broke the walls of division.

Who are these people in your life who are like lepers? Feeling far from God.
The least, the last, the lost.
Bring down the walls. Touch them,
befriend them. Bless 1 person a day.
You might be that leper who needs to come to Jesus. Who needs to come as you are.

Speaker: Bro Audie Villaraza

You are 40 steps away. Step back 40 steps all the way to easter. 40 steps to go back to Jesus.

Homily from Fr. Michael Laguardia

You get back from life what you give to it.

Praying for those who have inflicted you.
This is difficult because the human heart
is inclined to be vindictive.
This consumes us.
We are operated by negative mindsets.
We have wrong mentality.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

What is Christian attitude?

Jesus teaches us how to be truly human.

Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Be merciful just as your heavenly Father is merciful.

Natural man and Spiritual man.

Not just as human being but children of God.

Forgiveness is the law of God’s kingdom.

We can also chose to be merciful rather than resentful.

Resentment is a prison cell.
We chose to remain inside.

Forgiveness is setting the prisoner free.
The prisoner is you.

To forgive is to liberate ourselves from hatred that consumes our being.

Chose to be vengeful or chose to be merciful.

Speaker: Bro Audie Villaraza

Big Message:
God is enough.

1 Corinthians 7:25-28
Now about virgins: I have no command from the Lord,
but I give a judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy.
Because of the present crisis,
I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is.
Are you pledged to a woman? Do not seek to be released.
Are you free from such a commitment? Do not look for a wife.
But if you do marry, you have not sinned;
and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned.
But those who marry will face many troubles in this life,
and I want to spare you this.

1 Corinthians 7:33-35
But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world
—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided.
An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs:
Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit.
But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—
how she can please her husband.
I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you,
but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

These advice from St. Paul (Readings above) are not doctrines
but only his personal opinion.

Being single is a blessing.
Every season in life has a strength.
Enjoy your single blessedness right now.

God is enough to give you joy, peace, purpose, the life that you need.

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Accept singleness as a gift

If you’re a teenager, expand your world.

Immaturity is the number 1 reason for marriage trouble.

Don’t marry a toddler. Don’t marry a self centered brat.

Immaturity – selfishness, insecurity, impulsivity, immorality

A spouse does not complete you.
A spouse compliments you.

Accept the struggles of singleness.

God allows loneliness to drive us home to God.
