Isaiah 44:21
“Remember these things, Jacob,
for you, Israel, are my servant.
I have made you, you are my servant;
Israel, I will not forget you.”

We are all addicted to something
Trade it to something better
Trade in your vice so you can have a better life

God wants you back
Your sin does not own you. God owns you

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Genesis 25:29-32
Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!”
Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.”
“Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”

All addiction will lie to you
Addiction will tell you, if you don’t act upon what you are
addicted on, you will die

Your cravings will die — not you — if you do not feed your cravings

Our problem is our lack of patience
Delay gratification

Focus on another pleasure

You cannot get rid your addiction
But you can trade it with another

Don’t focus on addiction
Focus on ambition

Hebrews 12:4
In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

Often times we don’t fight temptation because we have no reason to fight
You will only fight temptation to the degree that you love yourself

Self rejection opens you to temptation

John 4:7
When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”

John 4:11,13-14
“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Our soul is thirsty for love
All addictions are pain killers

The reason why we have addiction is the lack of connection
The only way for you to be free of you addiction is the eternal love of God

Exodus 20:13
You shall not murder

Your words have power
Words can kill or heal

James 1:19
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this:
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Types of Abuse

You need to:

Take charge of your life

John 5:1-9
Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.

Problems paralyze people
They get used to the abuse
They give up hope
Pain becomes predictable. It becomes better than freedom

Rise up from your paralysis
You can get up from your paralysis

Take up your bed
– you can be comfortable with your problem
– you don’t need that bed anymore

Take responsibility

Take charge of your life

Keep on walking
Get out of your situation

Isaiah 43:18-19
Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

Stop looking back
We love clinging to the past
The old means familiar the new means unfamiliar

Acts 7:51
You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised.
You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!

Speaker: Bro Bo Sanchez

Big Message: God is staring a new thing.

Break that cycle
Family cycle
Nature or nurture?
What is more powerful?
Nature -> genetic
Nurture -> How you were raised

Your association affects your actions

Proverbs 13:20
Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm.

1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

1 Kings 11:3-4
He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.
As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted
to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

Is sin inherited?
Sin-tendency is more about nurture than nature.
God’s greatest gift to us, next to Jesus is our free will.
We have the ability to decide.

Lamentations 5:7
Our ancestors sinned and are no more,
and we bear their punishment.
Exodus 20:5-6
You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,
punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

–> It’s the culture of sin that is passed on
We set a bad example
Proximity is power
You influence people closest to you
You are a role model

Spiritual level
We’re interconnected
We affect each other
Just like a ripple effect

1 Corinthians 12:12-14
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—
and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
