1st Commandment

Exodus 20:3
“You shall have no gods before me.

Big Message: RELAX TRUST HIM MORE

Who is your God?
He is the ultimate authority and ultimate provider
He is to whom I obey and trust
We struggle in obeying him because we struggle trusting him

Who do you trust?

Is money your god?
Is lust your god?
Are people you god? –> Do you constantly please other people?

Don’t think about what other people would tell you
Instead, celebrate who you are

Are you your own god?

Relax. Trust in God more.

God is a God of everything

2nd Commandment

Exodus 20:7
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.”

You can change your vocabulary

You blurt out if you are in distress like
“Oh my God”

Using God’s name in vain.

Matthew 7:21-23
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name,
and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

3rd Commandment

Exodus 20:8
“Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.”

The power of focus

The same thing with Sabbath

feastbayarea-016

You need a once a week date so that you can focus on God

Be committed to God

All things will be added unto you when you seek God’s Kingdom first

We need to remember God
Fruit of Sabbath
–> You become more and more like the God you remember
–> Become more like Jesus

4th Commandment

Exodus 20:12
“Honor your father and your mother, that you may live
long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

1 Peter 2:13
“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every
human authority: whether to the emperor,
 as the supreme authority.”

God appointed authorities
If you love them, you love God

How can you love your mother and father?

1. Give Thanks
We normally focus on what our parents did not give

Sirach 7:27-28
“With all your heart honor your father,
and do not forget the birth pangs of your mother.
Remember that it was of your parents you were born”

How can you repay what they have given to you?
Your parents are imperfect
They did things that hurt you
But there are things that they did to you that helped you

2. Give Respect

Colossians 3:20
“Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”

You will never regret obeying your parents
Obedience is different from respect
When you become an adults you no longer have to obey your parents in everything,
but you still need to respect

3. Give Service

God rewards honor

Trust God.  Follow his will and everything will flow to you –> the grace of God
